Why did almost every single Republican Senator vote to increase taxes at the end of this year?

I never understood the logic of the Republicans who put an expiration date to their tax cuts, but in the end it's gonna be a good thing because the rich will finally be paying the fair share again when the tax rates return to where they should have stayed in the first place
